The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Whenever a major prize-giving event nears, you'll find a clamor for introducing fresh award types to recognize unsung work and satisfy the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: We need a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is an essential concession for the industry of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category in 2014
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked recently
  • Just some puzzle games managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often small games, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences globally and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. One could readily select a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
